Martin Harris

I am the founder of a consultancy firm Agropedo. We are based in Potchefstroom, South Africa. Agropedo specializes in physical soil classification, soil nutrient analyses, variable rate prescriptions for lime, gypsum, fertilizer and seed, leave and plant sap analyses and recommendations, in season crop consultancy and yield data analyses and recommendations.

I have worked in precision agriculture as a soil classification specialist and agronomist for 15 years. I started my working career as a soil classification specialist. This was a solid foundation on which I build my agronomic experience. I proud myself in the fact that I’m a practical agronomist in the field. I am an analytical person focused on details and results. My strengths are towards problem solving and practical implementation of recommendations. Kobie Krog is our in-house GIS specialist. Hardus Benade joined the team in 2021 as a graduate in soil science and agronomy. At the moment Hardus Benade is completing a two-year internship at Agropedo from where he will be introduced to clients of Agropedo to further our excellent service delivery and consultancy services.

In the past year we diversified our consultancy firm from only cash crops to animal and pasture production as well. Hennie du Toit joined our company in March 2022, and he is an animal and pasture scientist. As company we believe that regenerative agriculture holds the key to future production, and we are positioning ourselves to meet the demand for knowledge in cropping, animal and pasture production systems.

Agropedo joined the Brookside Labs team in 2019. The service and repeatability of analyses is of high standard. It is important for us as company to be associated with the best in the business.

As a youngster growing up I wanted to be a professional rugby player but injuries in my years at college stopped those dreams. Now a days I spend my free time with my wife Lize, our first born is on the way so a lot of new challenges are on the horizon. I still love sport but at the moment I only have time for the occasional round of golf. I started farming with a herd of Beefmaster cattle in 2013 and from there I expanded into a locally bred cattle breed called Bonsmara. At the moment I’m farming 80 head of Beefmaster and 120 head of Bonsmara cattle. We focus on high intensity grazing systems and cover crops rotations on fields we rent. After the cover crop has been grazed the landowner plants these fields no-till maize/ soybeans or sunflower.
