Rendell Shira

I was born and raised on a small, diversified grain & livestock farm outside of Mt. Vernon, Ohio (Knox County). My wife of 31 years, Jana, is also from Knox County except it’s Knox County, Indiana.

Vincennes, IN is her hometown, which is also where comedian Red Skelton was from. We bought our farm from my parents so I’ve never moved from home other than when I went to Ohio State University in the early ‘80’s to get my B.S. in Ag. I’ve raised registered Limousin beef cattle for 46 years. We have an active 9-year-old son & I coach his baseball team. We also like to ride bikes together on Sunday afternoons.

I worked in the biosolids industry for 18 years where I was responsible for all technical correspondence with the EPA. Prior to that, I was the manure nutrient technician for the Knox SWCD. I’ve gone full circle as I’m now the chairman of the Knox SWCD board.

I’ve been associated with Brookside/Amplify for 10 years but my first exposure to the lab was in 1985 when I hired Richard “Dick” Psolla for some guidance. I wanted to flush embryos from one of my Limousin cows & Dick had successfully worked with another cattleman that I knew. What a blessing to have had him as my first exposure to Brookside!

My specialty is soil fertility management but I also scout crops for several clients. Many of my clients are dairies while the rest are cash grain operations.

The great thing about Amplify is the comradery amongst the consultants & a lab that’s one of the best in the business.
